AUTUMN NEWSLETTER 2008
1. Annual Conference – Advance Notice The Bishop of Rochester, Michael Nazir-Ali has agreed to come on Tuesday 17th March 2009 to speak at a two venue meeting similar to that which was successfully accomplished earlier this year. The Bishop will be addressing both conferences on the subject of his recent Book – “The Uniqueness of the Universal Christ”
2. N.E.A.C. Consultation SHAPING THE FUTURE - Anglican Evangelicalism after GAFCON and Lambeth. A special Day Conference at All Souls, Langham Place on Saturday 15th November 2008, scheduled to run from 10.00 am to 16.30 pm. Details of the agenda for the day will be notified shortly. We will contact members when the information is available to us.
3. Vacancy in SEE Committee The Crown Nominations Commission meets in September and October to undertake the process for the selection of a new Bishop of St. Albans. Two of our members, Anthony Archer and Richard Hibbert, have been elected as part of the six nominees from the diocese.
The C.N.C. welcomes the submission of names for consideration from parishes or individuals up until mid September.
4. General Synod
July - Review Enclosed is the summary review of the discussions that took place over the weekend of 4th to 8th July in York.
5. Committee Membership There are two vacancies for members on the DEF Committee. Volunteers would be most welcome particularly anyone who would be prepared to act as Treasurer. The commitment is not arduous. Only three meetings a year and a simple management of two bank accounts.
6. General Synod -
Clergy Vacancy There is likely to be a clergy vacancy on the resignation of Rev. Dr Joan Crossly at the end of August. Is there anyone who would be prepared to stand in the bye-election which would take place in the Autumn and would be for the period ending in July 2010? Please contact the Chairman if you are interested.

8. Subscriptions Please check if you have paid for 2008. Your parish could be a corporate member nominating you as representative. The subscription is £5 per annum. Please forward to Philip Lovegrove.
9. Master Class for Senior Christian Leaders DEF members have been invited to take part in “A Master Class for Senior Christian Leaders”. Gillian Orpin has asked that you be made aware of this event at which one of the speakers is Bishop Richard Inwood. It flows from the work of the Centre for Contemporary Ministry and aims to examine the challenges facing leaders today and the multitude of leadership theories available. The event is over 24 hours on 1 and 2 October. Please contact Gillian for more information:
